Getting to Málaga: FAQ

Which airport serves the Costa del Sol?

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (IATA: AGP) is the gateway to the entire Costa del Sol, located between Málaga city and Torremolinos, just 10 minutes from the nearest beach resort and 30 minutes from Marbella. It is the fourth busiest airport in Spain with direct connections to over 60 countries.

How far is Málaga Airport from the main resorts?

Torremolinos: 10 minutes. Benalmádena: 15 minutes. Fuengirola: 20 minutes. Marbella: 35 minutes. Nerja: 55 minutes. Málaga city: 15 minutes. The airport’s central position means no Costa del Sol resort is more than 1 hour from arrivals.

Is there a direct train from Málaga Airport to the city and coast?

Yes, the Cercanías C1 train runs from the airport every 20 minutes to Málaga city centre (15 min, €1.80) and west to Fuengirola via Torremolinos and Benalmádena (45 min to Fuengirola, €3.50). It is the cheapest and most convenient option for these destinations. Nerja and Marbella are not on the rail network, taxi or transfer is required.

Should I hire a car at Málaga Airport?

For most villa holidays, yes, a rental car gives you the freedom to explore the white villages, day trip to Granada and Ronda, shop at the excellent local markets and access your villa at any time. All major car hire companies operate at the airport terminal. Booking in advance (especially in summer) saves significantly on the walk-up rate.
